Upgrading Optical Access Networks to get over 800 Gbps Packet Transmission Capability

Service providers such as telephone companies need to dramatically upgrade the capacity of their access networks to supply an increasing demand for a multiple types of services. Frank Wiener from Cyan Optics explained to me at the TelcoTV trade show that video transport can overwhelm traditional optical networks. Carriers can convert their optical networks to an optical packet system which can also combine multiple wavelengths to provide up to 800 Gpbs transport that can be used for voice, data, and video.
