Smarter TV Asset Management – Integrating IT and Television Broadcast Systems

TV broadcasters of all types are becoming overwhelmed by the identification and management of many new types of media assets. Fearghal Kelly from Ioko explained to me at the IPTV World show that broadcasters need smarter identification, storage, and transfer of their media assets. TV broadcasters need to find and access more content across multiple devices and provide interactivity and community features for their content. To expand broadcaster service and system capabilities, managed platform services and service oriented architecture – SOA can be used. This allows existing IT systems to be integrated with broadcast systems.
Some of the required functionality includes search, EPG, community, recommendation, customer resource management, television commerce (advertising, pay per view, direct sales), content syndication, and more. In addition to providing core services, a broadcaster platform should be able to securely integrate with other systems and provide for higher level functions such as application management and software deployment. To expand broadcaster service and system capabilities, managed platform services can be used. This allows existing IT systems to be integrated with broadcast systems.
