TV Broadcaster Tape Video Archive Health Monitoring

TV broadcasters need to store large quantities of video programming on tape. Because of data compression, more video can be stored on a single tape which can increase risk for the broadcaster. Fernando Moreira from Quotium explained to me at the IBC 2013 show that the information stored on tapes declines over time. If it is allowed to decline far enough, the information file can be unrecoverable. With digital compression, each tape can hold over 100 hours of programming. Fernando explained that predicting and monitoring tape archives can be a simple way to almost eliminate the risk of lost content. To solve this challenge, Quotium created the Storesentry Risk Assessment risk software. It can analyze and identify tape media that needs to be refreshed before it becomes unusable.
