Standardizing the Transcoding Processes Used in TV System

During my interview with Jeremy Deaner at the NAB 2010 trade show, he explained that there were over 20,000 video file formats. Broadcasters and media distributors need to transform these video formats into other forms that can be used by viewing devices. The key challenge is that there is no standard process for setting up and managing transcoders. According to Deaner, Amberfin is working with the video convergence forum (VCF) to create a process that can be used to defined and standardize how transcoders are setup. The VCF standards will provide a standardized APIs for transcoding systems.
