TV Widget Development System

TV widgets are objects that appear on a TV display that can be used to provide new features and services to viewers. During my interview with Ted Miller from Opera at the NAB 2010 trade show, he explained that several TV platforms are closed systems which require developers to create widgets in multiple versions. While Opera’s TV Widget software development kit produces TV widgets for multiple platforms, he expects that TV Platforms will eventually become standardized. To help developers and broadcasters, Opera has also produced a library of widgets that can be used or adapted for new features and services.
