Adaptive Bitrate Streaming
If you are an Internet TV broadcaster, you have discovered that streaming media through the public Internet has some key challenges. These include changing transmission conditions such as varying link transmission speeds, bursty error rates, and dynamically changing packet loss rates. During my interview with Bob Stockwell from Envivio during the NAB 2010 trade show, he explained that Envivio developed encoders that provide adaptive bit rate streaming. They dynamically change the streaming media to match the varying transmission conditions of the Internet and the customer’s broadband data connection. This is especially helpful for mobile video applications.
