Avoid Channel Zapping with Recommendation Engines
Consumers have become frustrated with poorly organized television content. In order to compete, service providers must discover a way to personalize television services, as well as manage and control recommendations for customers. For broadcasters, recommendation and targeting engines offer an opportunity for service providers to maximize revenue opportunities, for an example, by prioritizing premium content. At IBC, Thomas Dvorak of APRICO Solutions said that content can be delivered from any source – be it TV, VoD or Internet - to users via TV, PC or mobile based upon their viewing behaviors and inputs. Additionally, users will be able to enjoy content through channel sharing with their friends and communities. For content providers, this is beneficial since consumers avoid channel zapping, have no downloads or the need to search for content.Combined with EPG and Internet metadata, recommendation engines also present a compelling solutions for advertisers by allowing them to create commercial content that is always contextually relevant, educational, and highly targeted to viewers’ interests.
