TV and Video Content Identification without Using Metadata –Fingerprinting
Identifying TV and video content can dramatically add value to TV broadcasters system. Identifying TV content can provide a viewing history, ad insertion verification, and enable many personalized services. During the set top box 2010 conference, Dan Eakins from Zeitera explained to me that content fingerprinting allows content to be identified without the modification of content or additional metadata. Attributes of the video content is analyzed for a few seconds that produces a code that can be reviewed in a content database to determine what content the viewer has selected. During their development of the Zeitera fingerprinting system, they determined that different fingerprinting methods are better suited for different types of content.
