Adaptive Audio Streaming – Maintaining Audio Quality in Varying Bandwidth Channels
When viewers pay for premium programs they also expect high audio quality. White there are many adaptive streaming protocols for video, it is important to provide an adaptive audio streaming solution to maintain audio quality in varying conditions. At the IBC Trade Show, Anthony Wilkins from DTS explained that traditional audio streaming solutions do not work well in varying bandwidth and packet loss conditions. What is needed is an intelligent adaptive audio streaming protocol. This is especially important when providing multiple channel home theater experiences. By encoding audio in multiple bit rates, the perceived audio quality can remain relatively content even in varying bandwidth and transmission error conditions.
