Flexible Media Encoders – Ensuring You Have the Right Encoding Format
Not all media encoders are the same and having the correct formats and options set in your media encoder can mean the difference between good video and a lost customer. Laslo Zolton from DVEO described to me at the IBC trade show media encoders can have several format options including MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (H.264), HD, and SD. Broadcasters may also benefit from other key options such as real time encoding (low latency), constant bit rate (CBR), variable bit rate (VBR), analog inputs, digital inputs (HDMI with HDCP), automatic resolution detection, multicast transmission capability, Dolby®, AAC, and multiple profiles. Choosing the right mix of encoder features and configuration options can make a dramatic difference in the video quality and amount of bandwidth used.
