Lossless Video Compression – Important for Production Video Quality

Lossless compression is needed when producing and editing video programs. Janna Morstol from T-VIPS described to me at the IBC trade show that during the video production and editing phase, using compressed video is not a good option. Each time the video is transferred and processed results in degraded video quality. Distributing production content in raw media format would solve this issue but it requires a substantial amount bandwidth. The solution is to use lossless compression (such as JPEG 2000) which allows each production phase to maintain the video quality.
