Providing Pay TV Platforms with Gaming Services
Adding gaming applications to pay TV platforms is another opportunity to raise additional revenue and meet the demands of subscribers interested in services such as multi-user gaming or interactive services. At IBC, Guy de Beer from Playcast explained that gaming for pay TV platforms can come in packaged solutions that includes royalties with game publishers as well as a wide variety of or packaging options, such as subscrptions, a-la-carte and more. Gaming systems can be provided in a client-server based streaming solution that stores and processes audio-visual content in the head end, which is then streamed to the set top box as an MPEG-stream. For an end user, the service is an inexpensive way to receive premium gaming services without any downloads or installations.
