Connecting TV STB to Television Display via Wireless HDMI
Creating a wireless connection between the TV STB and the television display using HDMI is now possible. Eric Brookman from Alereon explained to me at the CES show that providing wireless HDMI connections is a significant challenge due to the extremely high bandwidth, control, and security issues required by HDMI connections. Another emerging challenge is the inclusion of 3DTV capability in the connection. The solution to this challenge is to use Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless and some smart channel coding methods. Initially, users can add a wireless HDMI adapter. Over time, wireless HDMI connections can be included (embedded) directly into the STB and the television.
