Developing New Television Applications using Android Set Top Boxes
Creating new applications for televisions can be done through the use of the Android operating system. Jeff Cody from Vidtonic explained to me at the CES show that the market potential for TV applications can be similar to the enormous multi-billion dollar market that has been created by mobile applications. Some Android applications for television will be very different than their mobile versions. TV applications can be rich media focused (lots of video content) and have user interfaces that are similar to television program guides. To simplify TV application development, Vidtonic has created an Android IPTV set top box kit HomeBrew developer kit. The kit provides equipment and reference materials that enable Android developers to quickly create new applications for television sets.
