Providing Set Top Box Features to Meet Market Requirements
With the increasing costs of deployment and increasing customer demands, set top box manufacturers have to consider the necessary features to include in set-top boxes. At NAB 2011, Vince Harradine and Joseph Spisak from Sigma Designs, explained that in order to be competitive, media processors should contain advanced features such as OTT content (such as Hulu or Netflix), widgets, and multiplatform support. The integration of Z-Wave enabled home automation, home security monitoring and home management products allows service providers to offer subscribers premium services. In addition to 3D video capabilities, the inclusion of 3D graphics enables customizable user interfaces to provide an interactive experience for the consumer.
