A More Efficient Media Streaming Protocol
Streaming media over unmanaged IP connections has some key timing, efficiency, and distance challenges. Uri Avni from Zixi explained to me at the OTTCon show that the use of more effective streaming protocols can overcome the channel change delays and inefficient use of bandwidth. Using these improved protocols, the Internet can deliver crystal clear HD video without long startup delay, buffer events, or freeze frames. To Zixi protocol can use existing encoder formats. This technology can be used on both the distribution side (to the customer) and on the aggregation side (from the content source). According to Uri, the Zixi protocol simply better uses the connection capacity and streaming control processes.
