A Smarter Open EPG – Merging Broadcast Content with Shared Social TV Channels
Consumers need a better way to find, organize, and share program viewing experiences with friends. Sherman Tuan from 9x9 Network explained to me during the OTTCon show that the Internet is already saturated with digital content. Viewers need a program guide system that enables them to discover and get content they value from broadcasters, the Internet, and from their peer groups (point to point – P2P content). Content owners are looking for new ways to distribute and monetize their content. Using the 9x9 network system, viewers can create their own program channels which can be categorized and ranked by friends and other viewers. This ecosystem can be tied into a subscription service and smart TV advertising system providing content owners and broadcasters with new revenue streams.
