Common STB Software Platforms – TV Broadcasters Need a Standard Architecture
The need for TV broadcasters to provide service to and support multiple set top box - STB devices becoming extremely complex. Robin Rutili from Zenterio explained to me at the IPTV World show that a TV broadcaster may have hundreds of different STB device types in their system. This makes it difficult for TV broadcasters to support and maintain several types of devices and platform types. The setup of new subscriber services can take much longer and require more resources (cost). It also reduces the ability of a TV broadcaster to transition to more cost effective STBs that use new chipsets. This solve this challenge, Zenterio has created a modular system architecture that uses integration layers. This makes it possible to integrate the same software platform with different hardware manufacturers and their devices. When new features or services are added, the integration layer automatically handles the adaptation to many types of devices.
