Multiplatform Content Protection for Controlled STB and Open Internet Connected Devices
To compete (and to survive), TV broadcasters are developing have new business models that deliver content to many types of devices on a mixture of controlled and open systems and devices. Geir Bjorndal from Conax explained to me at the IPTV World show that the security systems need to support new business models that include a mixture of controlled (set top boxes) and open (gaming consoles) require advanced content security processes and systems. More high value content is available for free or at very low cost through unauthorized sources. As broadband market penetration increases, there will be many more Internet connected devices. The TV broadcaster needs to provide TV anytime on multiple screens which results in new security challenges. Users need a simple experience regardless of the types of devices that they use. TV broadcasters need a single content security management interface that can integrate across managed and unmanaged distribution networks and devices.
