Broadcast TV Over LTE Mobile Systems
Customers are shifting their TV viewing habits from fixed TVs to laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. David Price from Ericsson explained to me at the IBC trade show that the LTE mobile phone systems have already been designed with evolved multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS) that allows people to share TV broadcast channels. Ericsson demonstrated sending Broadcast television to mobile devices at the Mobile World Congress trade show. This means that mobile phone companies are able to become TV broadcasts. David explained that the systems already have these capabilities and 4G capable wireless devices may not need any hardware changes to view the TV broadcast services.
