Shortening TV Product Development Time while Reducing Cost

Having a shorter development cycle for TV products is essential for the survival and profitability of companies. During my interview with Amine Chanbane from Marseille Networks, he explained that TV equipment product lifecycles are becoming shorter. They can be 6 to 9 months instead of 1 to 3 years. This means that by the time the product is designed and ready for sale in the market, competitors are already moving to the next generation of device. In addition to developing the products with the right mix of features, it is essential to use cost effective components. Rapid development of product using expensive general purpose DSPs (relatively high cost) is not a good option as the cost of the product can be prohibitive. A better solution is to create custom cost effective designs using virtual silicon simulation. This allows the manufacturer or designer to create the product, select component and design options, and to see (emulate) the end result. The end result is the rapid development of products with the right mix of features and performance that have a lower production cost.
