Hosted Digital Rights Management – DRM in the Sky
Digital rights management has become more complicated and it is about to become even more complex over the next few years. During my meeting with content security experts at Irdeto during the NAB 2010 trade show, they explained to me that DRM systems will need to define rights by location, media types, and device types and there are some of the device types are white boxes (such as gaming devices) which are not directly controlled by content distributor. This means that DRM systems must be continually updating which can be a challenge for most companies. A solution to this issue is to use a hosted DRM service (DRM in the sky). Irdeto now has a hosted DRM system which they continually update with new security processes and device drivers.
