Open Systems that Enable Internet TV Broadcasters to Provide Revenue Generating Services
If you are an IPTV operator or Internet TV broadcaster, your goal is to provide services to customers that they want and are willing to pay for. A key challenge for TV broadcasters is that their systems may not be able to be enhanced to provide the new services that their customers want. During my interview with Scott Burnett from IBM at the NAB trade show, he explained that IBM develops IPTV and Internet TV service platforms that are open systems. By using open systems (standardized protocols interfaces), broadcasters can mix and match equipment from multiple vendors and they can more rapidly develop of new services.
